Bingo and Breakfast at McDonalds

Mon, 30/08/2010 - 20:25
Bingo is called every Tuesday morning at a bingo game held at McDonald's restaurant on Broad Street, South Carolina, USA.  A group of people from the community has been meeting there for at least 15 years now to have breakfast, have a good time with their friends and enjoy a bingo game.
The bingo caller is Judy Lessard, a 68 old woman who has worked there for 29 years. Nell Cook, who Lessard calls her "right-hand person", handles the distribution of the bingo cards and the sign-in book. He is there when the doors open at 6 a.m.
The game starts at 8 am and it finishes whenever the prizes run out. The prizes include food and merchandise. In special seasons like Christmas, the players enjoy cookies and sometimes they have a guitar player. Once a month they sing “happy birthday” to everyone who's having a birthday that month. They also give cards to players who are sick or have lost loved ones.
That’s why players love going there; they are like a family and it is a fun thing to do once a week.  "I just like getting out and being with people", Cook said. "I enjoy the food prizes. I get breakfast here". "I like just getting out of the house and having something to do".
We hope this activity will be expanded in every restaurant around the world, so everyone can have a great time playing bingo with their friends while they enjoy a good breakfast.
