Man Secures Future of Bingo in Town

Pub owner buys bingo machine to secure future of bingo for townsfolk.

Stuart Ward, landlord of the King's Arms Pub in Ulverston has decided to purchase a bingo machine from the Roxy Bingo Club after it closed its doors. The machine, which has provided lucky numbers of thousands of bingo players for more than 30 years, would have gone to little use if it weren't for this purchase. Mr. Ward purchased the machine from Andrew Sail (owner of the Roxy) in original condition, complete with ping-pong balls flying up and down.

Mr. Ward and his wife Lynne are seeking a gambling license from the South Lakeland District Council, and if they succeed they hope to provide bi-weekly bingo sessions in the afternoon. Contrary to popular belief, Mr. Ward has not purchased this machine in an attempt to turn a revenue for the King's Arms, but rather he feels "it would provide somewhere for people who don't want to travel to Barrow, to play bingo." Furthermore, the big-hearted Mr. Ward will also be offering the bingo facilities to the Friends of Hoad Monument in order to raise funds to restore the monument.

Mr. and Mrs. Ward celebrated their first anniversary at the King's Arms on Wednesday. Congratulations to the King's Arms Pub, and here's to a good bingo future for the people of Ulverston.
